- When you come into measure, step offline to your right (a curved step) to maintain an advantage with superior blade positioning.
Pallavicini wants you to step offline, but keep your blade across your body, pointing at the opponent’s shoulder.

Mandritto or Riverso | Contratempo thrust to the right shoulder or face with the hand in half second. |
- Fencing low and uncovered is dangerous and is without any rule on guard
Pallavicini really does not like the low or refused guards. He argues there is only one thing you can do from the low guards and that is attack, therefore a more balanced guard (third with the hand in second or half second seems to be his favorite) allow you to offend and defend and do other attacks besides a rising thrust or a disengage.
- If your opponent takes the circular step, you should also so that you remain on the diameter
This just remakes the line of offense between you two, neutralizing the advantage of stepping offline.
- An imbrocata is made with the hand in half second.
A | B |
Advance | Curved Step Beat with the middle of your blade to A’s weak and stoccata to the chest. |

Inquartata | Curved Step Engage wit the true edge and thrust to the face with hand in third |
