Chapter 19
- When jostling for measure, never allow your point to pass the opponent’s guard.
Pallavicini says this is because if you do you are inside your opponent’s measure, though I’d argue if you are at mid-blade you are easily inside your opponent’s measure. Though I do prefer the larga plays.
- Keeping the arm extended holds your opponent at bay and you can see your true measure.
This is also horribly exhausting with a rapier and gives away your measure to your opponent. Also, your blade is more easily deflected when at full extension.
